Once the
heart stops beating, brain death occurs within 4 to 6 minutes.
If CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) is given within 4 minutes,
the chance of survival doubles. A blocked airway can kill a
person in 3 to 4 minutes.
It can take more than 8 minutes
for an ambulance to arrive. A simple procedure of opening someone’s
airway can save their life whilst they wait for emergency help.
The largest percentage of casualties are in the under 5’s and over
75’s.
